Paco Lomeña: Guitar Between the Roots and the Horizon

Músician and guitarrist born in Málaga in 1980, Paco Lomeña began his journey with the guitar at the age of six in his neighborhood of Puerta Blanca. What started as early lessons in local schools soon evolved into a long‑distance path that led him to train with local masters and gain experience on all kinds of stages before taking the definitive leap.

His career reached an international dimension during his seven years in Barcelona, where he became a key figure in the world of Ojos de Brujo. During this period, Paco toured the most important festivals on the planet — from Glastonbury, Womad Reading, the Montreal Jazz Festival, and Roskilde, to Quilmes Rock in Buenos Aires or Mawazine in Rabat — also making stops at events such as Festimad, Viña Rock, and the Córdoba International Guitar Festival. Along the way, he shared recordings and stages with artists such as Nitin Sawhney, Pepe Habichuela, Martirio, and Roberto Carcassés, and took part in a piece alongside Chano Domínguez, a collaboration that emerged naturally within the musical circuit. His music also reached renowned platforms such as the Jools Holland show, the BBC Awards and National Geographic: Music. This period was recognized with some of the highest honors in the industry, including the 2007 Latin Grammy, the BBC Award for Best European Group, the Cubadisco International Award, and Spain’s Premio de la Música for Best Tour.

After sharing lineups with legends like Pat Metheny and Ben Harper, and collaborating on recordings with artists as diverse as Estopa, Javier Ojeda, or Muchachito Bombo Infierno, Paco returned to Málaga to distill that global experience into a language of his own. His guitar has resonated in cities such as Tokyo, Mexico City, Oslo, Caracas, Berlin, and Los Angeles, consolidating a musical voice that transcends borders. His current playing represents the perfect balance between flamenco rigor and the openness of singer‑songwriter music. Today, his guitar is an instrumental journey that intertwines jazz harmony with classical elegance and the mysticism of Eastern sounds — an intimate proposal backed by the mastery of someone who has reached the summit and has chosen to keep searching for truth within six strings.
